How to send email to a SMTP server over a secure channel using STARTTLS setting of a send connector (Exchange and SMTP server are in the same domain)

I’m trying to send email using exchange send connector STARTTLS setting to the SMTP server. I have read multiple documents on configuring TLS for send connector, but they talks about outbound connections to internet facing servers. My Exchange 2013 and SMTP server is in the same domain (let’s say A.com) and I’m creating dummy domains on my SMTP server (e.g. user1@dummy1.local, user2@dummy2.local ) and their respective send connectors on the exchange server end. In the smart host section added the IP address of the SMTP server and in the scoping section added the SMTP domain address (e.g. dummy1.local ). In the FQDN field, added the FQDN of the exchange server 2013 which certificate is enabled with SMTP service.

Could you tell me a step by step procedure, where I’m going wrong or any extra settings needs to added?

Presently, it is giving me an error that 530 5.5.1 TLS encrypted connection is required.

Note: I’ve created the Microsoft CA certificates for the SMTP and exchange servers and imported them in the personal certificate container. In which, the exchange certificate is created with FQDN name of the server and enabled for the SMTP service.

I’m using OPENSSL certificate for making the SMTP server TLS enabled. (let me know, if I need to import the OPENSSL certificate anywhere on the exchange end)?

Thanks!

Blocking emails from a specific IP unless from a specific address.

I have exchange 2010. I have open SMTP ( Port 25 ) for a another specific server which is running an application which sends emails within the organisation. This application is not compatible with SMTP authentication. Therefore I have assigned it to a open receive connector. I have allocated a specific email address for this application too instructing that emails from this host should be from this give email address only.

I want a way to block emails if this application tries to send emails from another email address other than the assigned email account.

Please advise me on this.

SSL Certificates - how to...?

Hey Guys,

I need some help in SSL management in Exchange 2013. I have 2 CAS servers and 2 Mailboxes servers installed with wildcard certificate for clients. When I am looking into Servers -> Certificates in ECP I see several certificates assigned to SMTP service. Why there is several certificates assigned to same service? How can I check which one is valid? How to clear it up? Several certificates assigned to same service is confusing me a little bit... And I have no idea how to clean it up without breaking anything :)

Hi everyone,

In my Org. I have Exchange 2010 and 2013 servers.

I have created two transport rule:

  • Block spesific attachments extensions (on Exchange 2010 - for mailboxes located on that server).

This rule also is applied on 2013 Mailbox servers.

Now I'm getting some requests from my users - the rule is applied where it should not.

Could you please explain, how can I track, WHY the rule is applied? It rejects the messages where no attachments at all..

Email forwarding and Shared Address Space

Here is my issue:  Two companies ABC and XYZ.  Both have Office 365 Exchange Servers in the cloud.

My company abc.com recently sold a division and the email address of the sold division is xyz.com.  Employees of xyz.com used to have email addresses at abc.com.  For the next three months or so I need to forward all of prior ABC employees now at XYZ to xyz.com.

Example:  Fred worked for ABC and had email at fred@abc.com.  Now Fred works for XYZ and has email at fred@xyz.com.  Fred will continue to to receive email at fred@abc.com and this email needs to flow to fred@xyz.com.  It is not practical to keep Fred as a licensed  user of ABC Office 365.

What are my options.  I have tried to setup a send connector for email for abc.com to send to xyz.com but I get an error that a mail routing loop was encountered.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

How to traced whether the email has been delivered to recipients mailbox successfully?

Dear Exchange Expert,

Our environment is using Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1 and Outlook 2010 Clients. Sometimes, users have request to check whether the email has been delivered successfully or not. For external email, I think when we can only checked on the Exchange Tracking log explorer and when the event ID is deliver, we are quite ensure that the email has been sent out.

My question is how about internal exchange email? how do we ensure that the email has been delivered to recipients mailbox? Because sometimes some recipients might said they never receive the email. but, in fact the emails has been delivered and they might miss them.

Please advise.

H

Exchange 2010 Online Archiving: How protect mailboxes ??

Actually Microsoft have Exchange Protection for Exchange.. At the end of this year that tool will dissappear..

EOP has some protection funcionalities....but not all

So, I think is better to use 3rd tools like Symantec, ESET, Bitdefender, etc....

My question is: If we put out personal archives on Exchange online....Could we protect then with this 3rd tools ?? :(:(

So that, I don't sure to move our personal archive to Exchange online..

Force TLS with specific domains (domains list comes form the remote server)

Hey,

I have customer with special requirements. Customer runs their Exchange 2013 hosting hundreds of mailboxes with different domains. They need to pass particular emails to secure remote SMTP gateway. The connections to gateway must be forced via TLS.

The remote SMTP gateway accepts email only to specific remote domains.

For example:

1. If customer sends email to @gmail.com or @outlook.com the email should be routed via MX records to appropriate remote SMTP servers.

2. If customer sends email to one of domains handled by secure remote SMTP gateway, is should be routed to that gateway. Gateway can provide a domain list (updated daily) which it allows to relay. So let say if customer sends email from @domainA.com to @RemoteDomainB.com listed in the list, it should go through secure remote SMTP gateway.

As mentioned, secure remote STMP gateway provides .txt file with domains.

Can this be accomplished within Exchange 2013?

How this "send connector" could be configured with specific remote domain list, and updated daily?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Forced TLS mail design

I need to establish forced TLS mail (Outbound) to sepcified domain(Partner Company).

ExchangeMBX2013- CAS ---- >SMTP relay---->Mail Security system-----> external---->Specifed domain.

Mail security system have to receive forced TLS from SMTP relayed and then deliver the TLS mail to external.

I think belows action plan will be required, any other options to do for achievement?

- Public CA for TLS install on Exchange server

- Forced TLS setup in SMTP relayed server  for the domain

Allow Automatic Reply Rules for Select Users, Groups, or Shared Mailboxes

$

I have a user request to allow automatic replies, in rules, for a shared mailbox in my org. They would like customers to receive a notification when they send a message to the box. I have found a couple of methods to do the forwarding, and prevent looping issues, by first forwarding messages to an Automatic-Reply mailbox/mail enabled folder which, in turn sends the reply.

I am stuck on allowing the Auto-Reply mailbox to create rules with reply-to actions. I know I can allow this at the Org level but, does anyone know of a way to allow this for a specific user, group, or shared mailbox? Also, limiting domains won't work as the incoming messages could be from anywhere. I really need to control who can set up AutoReply rules.

Thanks in advance for any ideas,

Will Perry

Exchange 2013, user is unable to send (goes into the drafts folder), but able to receive, all other users are fine.

Odd one, we had a situation where the exchange logs went crazy causing the DB to dismount, unfortunately this caused a corruption which resulted in repairing the DB to get it backup.

Email flow all happy for everyone except for one user, he is unable to send, but able to receive, his e-mails goes straights into the draft (owa/outlook), we did find a number of e-mail sitting in his outbox also, but since moved, checked the obvious, sent limit's is set to unlimited, verbose logging /message tracking does not picks up any activity, test-mailflow is happy, works when using telnet.... any pointers?
